OkayFreedom: A Complete Guide to Features and Setup
Maximize Your OkayFreedom Experience: Advanced Tips and Tricks
1) Choose the right plan & install latest client
- Free: limited monthly data (250–500 MB depending on source) — use only for testing/light browsing.
- Paid: buy the annual/unlimited plan for continuous use.
- Always download and install the latest Windows client from the official site to get bug fixes and updated server lists.
2) Configure basic protections
- Enable AlwaysProtected / kill switch (if available in your client) to prevent traffic leaks if the VPN drops.
- Block IPv6 in Windows to avoid IPv6 leaks (OkayFreedom historically blocks IPv6 by default, but confirm in settings).
3) Pick the fastest server for your task
- For best speeds, choose a geographically close server or the “auto/closest” option.
- For streaming, test servers in the target country (e.g., UK for BBC iPlayer, US for Netflix). If playback buffers, try a nearer alternative.
4) Troubleshoot common connection problems
- Ensure internet is working and Windows is up to date; check system time/date.
- Allow/forward ports 443 and 1193 and whitelist processes: OkayFreedomClient.exe, OkayFreedomService.exe, openvpn.exe.
- Temporarily disable other VPN clients, firewalls, or antivirus that may block TAP adapter.
- If issues persist, fully uninstall, reboot, then reinstall the latest client (Steganos provides an uninstall tool).
